Hi, my name is Patrick Carlow, the owner of Most Relevant Links
Directory. This Blog is more for my own
amusement than for anything else. It's not meant to be taken to
seriously. I was reading a couple of internet marketing blogs by
other people who both eventually quit or gave up which inspired me
to start my own. This little experiment may lead to the same demise.
Mostly I'll just ramble on about nothing to create some more content
for search engine spiders and to test the effect of certain
keywords. However, I will
touch on some things that have been successful for me like recently
making some profit selling Amazon products through Google AdWords.
I'll be sure to share plenty of my failures as well. I'm a little
concerned about coming off amateurish but I've found I prefer to
deal with people who just shoot straight with me so to speak, than
put up a big front. Maybe we can both learn from my mistakes. Oh
well, here goes nothin. :)

A Day of Work.

There hasn't been much internet marketing going on today. I've
spent most of my time working out the bugs in my new link directory
scripts and getting old parts of the site updated and migrated.
I get the impression that many people who take a stab at internet
marketing think it's a glamorous easy way to make money.
Unfortunately it takes a lot of hard work, especially on a shoe
string budget.
I read a nice article yesterday. It was one of those "what is
the one thing that makes people successful" type articles and the
author boiled it down to those who seize opportunity and those who
just dream. Take action. Almost every success starts
with many small steps. Well, you get the idea. Ask
yourself, what have you done today to move closer to your goal?

Check Your Stats.

I had recently set up account with a few banner exchange programs in
order to try and gain some more traffic for the link directory. I
found a pretty nice free banner generator at www.bpath.com, better
than most. I got all the banners set up on my site and received
emails from the banner exchange companies saying I had been
approved. I couple of days later I went to check on my statistics
and found that my banners weren't even being shown through a couple
of the banner exchange networks even though I had received
confirmation emails from them! After several emails it looks like
I'm getting it all straightened out. Moral of the story is, don't
set it and forget it. Log in to your accounts for whatever programs
you are running and advertising and check on the statistics and make
sure everything appears correctly. It amazes me how many sites I run
across with links to dead programs.
On another note, I applied for Google Adsense and had a good day
yesterday selling Amazon products through Google Adwords. I'll get
into more detail on how that's working for me in a future
installment of the Internet Marketing Blog.

Not a bad day.

As you can probably see now, I was accepted by Google Adsense
yesterday. One of the biggest thrills I've experienced while
internet marketing is seeing my site listed in DMOZ and the
acceptance email saying Welcome to Adsense! I've read numerous
horror stories on message boards and forums from people with
websites much better than mine describing the pains they've gone to
try and get listed or accepted by these two entities and I have done
it almost effortlessly it seems. I guess I must be doing something
right.
Also I had a decent day with Adwords selling Amazon products
yesterday. I'm finding the problem with my system is that it always
requires looking for new products to sell to replace the old ones
where there is now to much competition or no longer enough demand.
It is a very time consuming process. Also, the investment versus
cash flow is absolutely horrid as Amazon only pays once every three
months. More to come on this subject in the future.

Get the News.
|

|
Yesterday while reading another internet marketing blog I had the
idea to subscribe to a Google News Alert for the words 'search
engine' and 'internet marketing'. Google News Alerts are sent by
email when news articles appear online that match the keywords you
specify. Let me tell you, I was very surprised at the end of the day
to find two emails, with very relevant and current articles on each
subject. These are high quality articles written by professionals in
the industry and the information couldn't be any more current. I
highly suggest that what ever industry your in you sign up for news
alerts on your keywords of choice. I may even start another blog for
just discussing these news articles. These will be a great source
for new money making ideas.
Speaking of making money, when I first started trying to use AdWords
to make money selling Amazon products I tried to sell books. I sold
a couple but when you only make 1.50 or less a book, you're not
going to make profit after your click expense. To make money selling
Amazon products through AdWords you have to sell high dollar items.
Five percent of a fifteen dollar book just doesn't cut it. That's
the AdWord tip of the day I guess. I'll think I'll continue to
reveal a little bit more with each posting on how I've become
profitable.
